Lost Canvas is a gallery of forty-three paintings, each one cut into hexagons and handed back to you in the wrong state. Put a painting right and it goes up on the wall; walk along the wall to reach the next one. There is no clock, no score and nothing to buy.
Common questions
How do I play?
There are two kinds of painting, and the game opens whichever one the painting is. In the first, every hexagon is there but turned the wrong way up: tap one to turn it a step, or press it and drag round its middle to turn it by hand. In the second, the canvas starts empty and the pieces lie in a strip beside it: drag a piece onto the canvas until none are left. Either way, the painting is finished when it looks like the painting.
I cannot tell which way up a piece goes.
Hold Peek and the finished painting shows through. It lasts only while your thumb is down, on purpose — it is meant to be a glance at the brushwork, not a picture you can leave on the screen and copy.
I have put a piece somewhere it does not belong.
A piece sticks anywhere it fits, not only where it belongs, so the canvas can end up completely covered and still wrong. Drag the piece back off and it returns to the strip. Nothing is spoiled and nothing has to be restarted.
Where did my progress go?
The paintings you have restored are saved on your device only — there is no account and nothing is stored on any server. Deleting the app deletes them, and there is no way to get them back or to carry a gallery to another phone.
How do I turn the music or the sound off?
Both are switches in the band across the top of the gallery, beside the About button. They stay as you leave them.
Whose paintings are these? What is the music?
The paintings are public-domain photographs of public-domain artworks from Wikimedia Commons, and the music is eight recordings from the same place, most of them licensed by their pianist. The About button on the gallery wall names every painting, every recording and every licence, along with the two typefaces the game is set in.
Is there a time limit, a score or a hint?
None of the three. A painting is finished or it is not, and nothing counts how long it took or tells you how close you are.
